Success StoryVerizon-sponsored workshops help hone educator development

TED-Ed and Verizon partnered up to provide thousands of educators with a professional development opportunity/experience.

The challenge:

Verizon, a global telecommunications and technology company, regularly partners with districts and school superintendents to provide them with the technology needed to support their schools. However, recognizing the challenges educators faced during the pandemic, Verizon wanted to directly engage with educators to provide them with an experience that would help elevate them professionally at a critical time.

“Our primary goal was to be helpful, to demonstrate goodwill and give back to the educators who serve our communities so well. We wanted to provide them with this professional development opportunity because we knew they were feeling undervalued and overwhelmed”, Susan Kelemen, Verizon’s State, Local and Education Segment Marketing Manager explained.

In order to reach this goal, Verizon sought a partner with deep ties to the educator community that could offer a unique experience that would motivate and excite educators. Verizon also wanted to highlight their commitment and support for Educators and Education.

The solution:

In collaboration with TED-Ed, a globally recognized brand in the education space, Verizon sponsored a series of five live, virtual workshops available to all educators, where the TED-Ed team led participants through a process they could use to transform their ideas into TED-style talks. Additionally, Verizon provided these educators with the TED Masterclass course so that they could continue to hone their skills after the workshop. Together, Verizon and TED promoted these workshops within the US educator community; generating interest, awareness, and engagement from thousands of educators across the country.

The results:

Working with TED, Verizon was able to provide thousands of educators with an enriching and engaging professional development experience that taught them how to identify, develop and deliver their best ideas with each other and the world. Both the workshops and the TED Masterclass course were well-received by educator participants.

“I loved that Verizon empowered a group of people who normally feel like their knowledge is not valued and showed us that we are beyond capable of giving out a gift to more than just the students in our classroom”

Additionally, Verizon was able to showcase their dedication to Educators and Education and overwhelmingly exceeded their email campaign’s open and click-through rate targets.

“We received real time feedback during the workshop that educators felt appreciated and valued. This is exactly what we wanted.”
